#NaPoWriMo: Day 27

Fire Dancing

when I close my eyes
to hear the drumming better,
the dancers become flames
devouring my heart

I long to join the inferno,
to become a part
of such consumption,
to fade into that heat
of color warming faces,
scorching minds
with the grace and beauty
belonging solely to the element

they welcome me into the pyre,
the pure movement
of letting oneself
completely go
for a song’s length
encompasses a body

and the pain
is burned away
