#OctPoWriMo Day 2

Resistless Resiliency

between the barbs
of a genetic prison
a nervous system twists,
turns and burns
a body,
exposes bones
and leaves
one an open wound

one drop
to resurrect,
infect, awaken
a forsaken
muscle group,
transforming
mobility
into a millstone,

a tree root,
planting claws
beneath skin,
reminding
of one’s fragility,
vulnerability,
one’s mortality,
one’s willingness
to live

carrying
this, a dust
receptacle
for the world’s idea
of what strength
looks like, what
ableness and
accomplishment
amount to

an empty grave
for me and you,
a soul that gave
love for as much
as it suffered
through
