Winter Always Returns
Underneath these
brittle fingernails
are remnants
of all I’ve
ever clawed
for dear life to.
I leave
a piece of me
on every ledge
& in every
dream I have
I’m still falling.
I had to be
taught to breathe
from frozen
fear states.
I’m frostbitten
from my
ongoing battle
with blizzards.
Some day
snow white lace
will cover me,
concealing
every secret
I ever kept.
My spirit
will rise
like mist,
dissipate.
I’ll bleed
back into
the rushing river
I was born of.

Wow! What a wonderful poem! Such strong imagery flowing through my mind in your honest and gifted voice! By the way, I too have dreams of falling! They’re scary!
