#NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 7 : “Road Movie”

Road Movie

flickering faces in the rearview,
neon glow, the slow strobe
of storefront lights
illuminating emotion

lines on the road, monotone,
dry eyes from staring
at the ever-changing
scenery

winter slush, fading greenery,
truck stop in the afternoon,
soon a dead end & a gorgeous
sunset

nightfall, talk show lullabies,
coyote cries & strangers
at breakfast, roadside,
cold chicken, sights,
picture sets

focus on the tracking,
the grace that comes
with all that’s lacking,
what we miss
when the burden
of worrying
steals all this

stop for gas,
lapsed exit,
misdirection

have a laugh,
tally expenses,
air changes,
ear pops, new place,
new senses

no need for destination
when we’re traveling
on the whim
of a dying radio station

fluttering faces
in the driver’s seat,
sunrise through
the pine trees,
the vehicle,
the camera,
curiosity,
adventure,
& me

  1. Reminds me of another song….

I dial it in and tune the station
They talk about the U.S. inflation
    I understand just a little
    No comprende, it’s a riddle

    I’m on a mexican radio
    I’m on a mexican radio

I wish I was in Tijuana
    Eating barbequed iguana
I’d take requests on the telephone
I’m on a wavelength far from home
I feel a hot wind on my shoulder
I dial it in from south of the border
I hear the talking of the DJ
Can’t understand just what does he say?

    I’m on a mexican radio

  2. This is so good, and ugh the farthest feasible road trip I can envision these days is Michigan — which is beautiful!! and my girl’s original home as well as yours… but not the same. 🙂
