Homecoming

Homecoming
(For R.)

during the summers of habitual brooding

we spoke of another Earth
too often, so often that an
extraterrestrial tension with
our productive peers

developed from the old terrain
after the June torrential
downpour; there were sprouts of
instability & bouts of insanity sprung

they swept our petals
off the dirty floor, repaired
the broken window you
leaped out of when the

sensors became uncensored,
unleashed, & we thought
we would beam back
to each other at some point, somewhere

after the sedatives
released us from their grips & into the
air & care of the captains
& seconds in command

we’re going down with this spaceship
