#OctPoWriMo 2021 — Day 8: “Marvel”

Marvel

I’m wearing red
which cements
the idea
that this is a dream

“a power color”,
she says
from her weakest point,
          a voice from the
          rafters

all her books
preach a utopian
happy ever after
         I have
          paper cuts
that spell out
          her name

filmed evidence,
          close-up on blame,
ingrained resistance,
          I fight shadows
          & she knows
the hell from
         whence they came

shake awake,
          it’s just how
          it always goes

she’s hanging
from my ceiling
by a bicycle ribbon,
still & smiling

          I’m washing
          blood stains
          out of my clothes
