#OctPoWriMo 2021 — Day 22: “Ningizo”

Swept away by girls in white.
Their feather comfort was
my solace. I was surrounded
by love for the first time.
I felt cold. Amber fire stirred
within my heart.
They let me cry. They caught
my tears in cupped hands.
I forgot my body, left pain
in another place. I shed
a snake’s skin that day.
I learned the beauty
of ceremony. I gave
all that happened
a new name.

snow fields of healing
icicle tears melt freely
winter of my life
