#OctPoWriMo 2021 — Day 24: “The Agency”

The Agency

they want your
candy coated
neon blood, they
want to bottle
your youth
for grey days

they want your
doe eyes, frightened
& naive, they want your
buttercream skin, they
want your scent
to be luscious

they want your
rose petal lips,
your piercing
collar bones, they want
your brows frozen
in vaporous dream

they want your lie,
they want to sell
you as theirs, they want
your innocence crunching
in their black-lit teeth

they want you dead, they want
you gasping, they want you
silent & malleable, they
want you seen, storm rattled,
they want you glowing

they want you, they want
that thing you grip
like a lifeline, that invisible
something no one can name
that in the absence of
you’d be nothing

  1. I didn’t realize this was crafted with a movie in mind, so I looked up “The Agency” on IMDB. Is it about the 1980 movie? Also: this was a powerful poem, made me think of “1984” with a vampiric government.

  2. Love it! I haven’t seen the movie, but this made me think of social media’s effects on young women for some reason. How they package and commodify things. Great poem, Jennifer!
