#OctPoWriMo 2021 — Day 27: “Revelation”

Revelation

I pour my tea freely,
but only into your ears

You hear, but never listen,
blame your lack of heart

Faith is a limited option,
symbolism reigns and

your decoder is broken,
misaligned, enigmatic

I force you to read my leaves,
I’m so obvious and you don’t care

All night, writing down
the visions: the albino deer

in the burning field and
your hand slipping from mine

The room of ladders with
slippery rungs, and a dragon

slain in a corner, your sword
deep in its indigo eye

Serpents burrowing into my head,
the only crown I’ll ever accept

You hissing the sweetest things
to entice me, and I’m still

weaponless, all stars and roses
against your lovely darkness

I’m sponging the tablet clean,
no more of me staining your aesthetic

The book will never be finished,
the story will change upon the page,

passed through the soiled hands of others,
corrupted by the better-than-reality fantasy
