5. Solitude as Syrup
the self of silence is a hawk
whose glass eyes reveal too much
the noise is a comfort, but some
who taste the ash of death
crave escape into an inner world,
one cavernous space with corners
obscuring monsters or angels
in their rocky dwellings
the self in silence is a stranger,
a friend or enemy to learn from,
to know as much as we believe
a sacramental mystery can be intimated
a sweet speckle in the sour before dawn
when a rare quiet can invade
like a roaring storm,
when thoughts are a danger unknown

But who could blame who seeks the inner earth, as it were? Heaven forbid I ever suss out how to move therw full-time! I would never come back.
Lovely writing. The visuals fit for me.

The pull of worlds within worlds within worlds within is a strong one, I believe. Thank you.

Of course. If anybody needs me, I’ll be in my imaginary cave under the Garden of Eden feeding the Venus of Malta grapes. ;p

Thank you, Dominic. I feel it’s important to carry silence with us especially through the bustle.

Yes, otherwise we’ll go mad in this noisy world!

Our inner worlds are of a similar construction, I think. Another well-writ piece, Jennifer. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks, Michael. I’m a firm believer in the inner being a place worth traveling to no matter where it leads.

What a compelling labyrinth of a poem! I loved getting lost in it and finding new twists with each read.
