23. Born of a Goodbye
back in that room,
Florida oppression
holds down arms
while invisible misery
inches along clammy skin
last night’s secrets
were released over
a meadow, a head laid
upon a lap, lips confessed
butterfly brushes
blushed cheeks,
& blueberry-tinged tongues
couldn’t stop interrupting
moon cycles conspired
to bring it all together,
clashing waves marked
the jagged rocks
& whispered the next
right thing to do
now in bed alone,
eyes gleaming with the
lightness of letting go,
she thinks of how
she was born of a goodbye
& it makes sense,
like the trustworthy tides —
everyone comes & goes,
& they all leave
a lingering ache behind
