A Night On Fire

A Night on Fire

Let us analyze
misheard lyrics,

jam out to vinyl,
guzzle spirits,

admire the amateur
watercolors
pinned to the wall

The city noise ordinance
keeps vibes low,

smooth like muted blues,
the dusty mandolin

is out of tune, but name
your favorite chords
& I’ll play them all

We’ll howl along
with the alleycat quartet,

in the glow of a rusted southern hue,
in the shadow of a soprano’s silhouette

We’ll be hoarse with regret
when a complicated dawn
comes to call
