NaPoWriMo 2024 — Day 5

Okay, I’m not exactly sure what I’m going for here, but I think I had some kind of “screamo” song idea in my head. Anyway, this is unfinished & who knows where it will end up when it’s completed, but I wanted to share it for Day 5.

A Difference of Opinion Is Not An Apocalpyse

  1. Victimhood ferocity
    flashes a finger smeared screen
(do you know what I mean?)
  2. No need for human contact
    when there’s smooth dopamine
(do you feel what I mean?)
  3. don’t see me, don’t touch me,
    remember my name

‘I’m different, I promise’,
but these chambers all echo the same

  1. Discussion is useless, insistence is better
Accusations perfected down to the letter
(I need you to be what I mean)
  2. The end of the world in a click, not a fist
Overreaction in a flick of the wrist
(What do you mean you’re not who you seem?)
  3. don’t look, don’t see,
    eyes assault me

I was born of a machine, don’t fault me

  1. and she wins the crown
    for the most beaten down,
this subtext is grounds for civil unrest
(be who I mean or I’ll scream)
  2. girl, you’re a lie wrapped in ribbons,
    your unraveling is orchestrated,
    a perfect ploy to destroy

and you like it, you like it
(I feel so empowered, so seen)

  1. You never go hungry when you eat your own
Devouring the opposition right to the bone

    (to be continued…eventually…)

    1. I’m very glad this is being received so well because I have no clue what I’m doing when it comes to lyrical stuff, but I really felt this & can imagine guitars, drums, & vocals in it. I’m still working on it. It’s been coming to me line by line for about a month now. Thanks so much for encouraging me!!

    1. Many years ago I learned a little guitar, but due to neuropathy affecting my arms & hands badly I found it difficult to play & practice without pain. I pulled out the guitar a few months ago to discover I popped a string so now I have to get around to fixing that. Musically all I’ve ever done is sing & play a little keyboard, but I’ve forgotten how to read music & my voice isn’t what it used to be. That’s a long answer to a very simple question, forgive me. πŸ™‚

      1. Not at all. I just thought if you’re hearing music it might be time to try setting it to the piece. I can certainly see how it would work. β€œUp Above My Head I Hear Music in the Air!”
