NaPoWriMo 2024 — Day 30

To close out this year’s National Poetry Writing Month, I’m sharing two videos from Poets Meet Musicians Night at Middlecoast Brewery in Traverse City, MI last night. I read two of my poems, “Sing Those Summoned Sandstorms” & “Equinox” & I had a wonderful time. I’m very glad this is a monthly event here & plan on attending again. Enjoy!

  1. I love both poems, Equinox, especially. I hate that there was so much background “talking” during your reading. I’m unsure of the establishment but whenever an artist is reading/performing anywhere I’ve ever been, we always “respect the mic.” Your words, though . . . flawless, as always.

  2. I’m so glad you shared these!! I’m still thrilled that this happened and is leading to more opportunities with your poetry community there. A “migration of old thoughts to new thoughts”, indeed. Miigwech for a month of wonderful work, my friend. Well done 💜💜💜

  3. Fantastic job, Jenn. Makes me recall those days when I was running a gig like that. As someone else mentioned, it’s too bad that folks didn’t respect the mic — but I’m sure there were people there who had come for other reasons than to listen (the proverbial “average joe”). I hope to see more of these in the future. 🙂

    1. I was when I lived in Tampa! I used to go to games all the time. Now that I’m back in Michigan, I hear the Tigers are doing alright. I stopped following baseball though so I have no idea what’s going on. I used to go to those games when I was a child. I miss it. I should get back into it. I miss when Evan Longoria was a Ray. ☺️

  4. Great recital in such a challenging venue! 🙂 Your verses flowed smoothly & good that there’s future poetry evenings ahead. I’d be far too shy to do a live audience reading – brave of you to try it!

    1. Thanks. I used to do them a lot in my early twenties. I’ve always struggled with public speaking & I’m definitely more terrified of people now, but I don’t know, I just get through it somehow. It helps that the other poets in attendance are so supportive.

    1. Yeah, it was a struggle with the background noise. I’m sorry I can’t post the poems as I’m planning to submit them and can’t have them on blogs or social media. But if they are rejected and don’t make their way into the chapbook I’m planning, I will share them here again. Thank you for attempting to listen. I plan on going to this monthly event again on Monday. It’s been good for me to get out. ❤️
