The Excavation

The Excavation

surfaces shown, maybe even
a sliver below the skin, an invitation
to glimpse within

of course, human hands
tend to dig
the extra mile below,
call it curiosity
or lack of self control

they scavenge,
ripping the innards out
in admiration, for the sake
of analyzation, for
critique, for their own
grandeur

the forms presented
for eyes, for minds
are theirs — pick through,
choose, intrude

but leave the mind
of the poet alone,
leave their soul
intact, let them
revel in lostness,
to find their own
way back
