Coronation
you slowed down enough
so we could see the
sinister faces in the trees,
whistling together
the song of midsummer,
the floral assault
of our shared dreams
wobble walls enclosed
me, waves and arms so
tight, enraptured by
a solstice night, drunk
on elementary memory,
eyes wide opened, refusal
to see how heavenly
we could be
angel, you were disguised
in menace, and mayhem
attached itself to
your name my shame
was an emblem, your hands
gained momentum too
quickly, my dear, I was
bound and to blame
crowned and uplifted,
sides were shifted,
laughter from the old us
rang out through the woods
we never stopped with the
parallel theories, the
wished-for-backdrop,
but we should have
we never had a ‘bye
at sundown, or on any
ground that was good

Superb poem! It has shades of light and darkness, though I think it ends in sadness. And I absolutely love the way it flows!

This resonates. For some reason it evokes in me the feeling of making a connection with someone just enough but that I need to let that person make their own decisions even if they don’t mesh with mine? There’s a distance that grows sometimes between people and is necessary. Thank you for putting this dilemma, this feeling I have sometimes, into words so well.
